Sherman ISD is excited to announce Torie Washington, currently an early childhood assistant principal in the Dallas Independent School District, as the next principal of Fred Douglass Early Childhood Center.

Washington is an accomplished and collaborative leader who advances organizational growth and aligns campus leaders and educators through the implementation of effective, results-oriented management strategies.

She has demonstrated measurable success as an assistant principal in Dallas by improving student outcomes through data-driven instruction and program leadership. By monitoring progress, redesigning curriculum, and targeting foundational skills, she achieved significant gains in student proficiency in reading, math, and phonological readiness.

Washington is committed to honoring the legacy of the Fred Douglass campus while working side by side with colleagues to enrich student experiences and further strengthen connections with the community and commitment to families.

She is thrilled to join the Sherman Bearcat community, where connection, growth, and shared purpose are valued. She feels honored to be entrusted with one of Sherman ISD’s greatest gifts: its future leaders.

“I’m committed to building something meaningful and lasting, and it’s a true privilege to serve alongside such passionate and gifted educators,” Washington said. “Together, we will ignite a new chapter and strive for excellence as we work to make Sherman the nation’s best early childhood program.”

Prior to joining Sherman ISD, Washington worked as an early learning lead instructional specialist in Dallas ISD, where she led specialists as they mentored teachers, facilitated successful professional development sessions, and supported a team of 11 administrators and 116 teachers in instructional plans. She began her career in education in 2007 as a classroom teacher in Texas.

Washington earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Houston and a master’s degree in educational leadership and supervision from Lamar University.

She lives in McKinney with her husband, George and their three children: Cadence, a college student; George Jr., a middle schooler; and Nhandi, an energetic three-year-old.
