State Law Requires Parental Notice and Consent
Attention parents and guardians!
Sherman ISD nurses, counselors and athletic trainers provide a variety of services related to a student's mental, emotional, or physical health or well-being. Under a new state law, SISD is now required to provide annual written notice regarding health-related services provided in our schools, along with the opportunity for parents to decline or withhold consent for their child to receive these services. See the links below for examples.
In the past, this consent was understood as part of the routine support schools provide to ensure student safety, wellness and readiness to learn. Under Senate Bill 12, passed by the 89th Legislature, Sherman ISD can assume consent has been provided if you do not opt out of these services.
SB 12 also includes a consent requirement related to participation in any type of K-12 student club or organization, including curricular, co-curricular, extracurricular and competitive clubs.
If you wish to opt out of club participation or health-related services for your child at any point during the 2025-26 school year, please log on to the district’s student registration form and update your child’s student information under the Restrictions section. See detailed instructions in English or Spanish.
If you choose one of these options, please also notify your child's school. Staff will be in touch with you for further information.
Thank you for reviewing this information and for your continued trust in Sherman ISD. We are grateful for the extraordinary care and commitment of our nurses, counselors and athletic trainers, whose daily efforts make a lasting difference in the education and lives of our students.
